Freight Services

Murin discontinued the weekly barge freight service to Wadeye on 1 September 2025 due to rising operational costs and service conditions set by our barge provider that made the route commercially unsustainable.

The barge freight service to Wadeye, had provided an essential supply link since 2020, particularly during the Wet Season when road access is limited.

Murin’s submission to the government led EOI process for continuation of the Wadeye barge service was unsuccessful.

While we have delivered a consistent and reliable service for the past five years, the conditions set by our barge provider and the competitiveness requirements of the EOI meant our proposal did not meet the necessary thresholds.

Considering the investment Murin has made in machinery and infrastructure to support freight and logistics services, we will continue to seek opportunities to deliver these services across the Top End region.

While long-term freight solutions are explored, Murin remains open for business and can provide the following services:



• Continued road-based freight services during the Dry Season and for urgent or specialised deliveries, including cold-chain, building materials, machinery, and medical supplies.
• Project-based barge freight and logistics services for companies and communities requiring ad-hoc or contract-based movements.
• Ongoing collaboration with regional communities, partners, and industry stakeholders to develop a sustainable long-term freight model for the region.

Delivery cut off

Goods must be dropped off by 12pm Monday for Tuesday dispatch.
